About NGAL

Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) is also known as Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), is used as a biomarker of kidney injury, and has also been shown to play a role in cancer and cardiovascular events.

Pro-B-type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-proBNP)

Pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (ProBNP) is released from cardiac myocytes, and is cleaved into BNP and its N-terminal fragment, NT-proBNP. Plasma concentrations of both BNP and NT-proBNP are significantly increased in patients with asymptomatic and symptomatic left ventricular dysfunction. There is excellent clinical and statistical correlation between assays for BNP and NT-proBNP. Due to the longer half-life in the circulation, NT-proBNP levels in blood plasma are generally 6-10 times higher than BNP. The better stability and wider dynamic range for NT-proBNP may provide an advantage in clinical testing.
